Event Listing Criteria

Our team of local editors curates a calendar of one-time, family-friendly events in consultation with the below criteria.

IMPORTANT: Please use this form to submit qualifying events to our calendar. We strive to check these submissions weekly when we’re already logged in to the calendar. We are not able to accept event submissions by email or social media messages.

Complimentary calendar listings must meet 4 criteria:

  1. One-time events, not multi-week sessions
    • If the event runs multiple times, families can come to one or more dates of their choice (no multi-week commitment)
    • The event is of interest even if a long-term commitment by participants is unlikely (no informational open houses or trial classes)
    • Significant pre-work is not required. For example, we don’t list book clubs where the book must be read in advance.
    • Must be an event, not daily open play hours.
    • Typical daily business activity does not qualify as an ‘event’ for our calendar, even if there is discounted admission or fundraiser donation of admission fees.
  2. Open and accessible to the public
    • Not “members-only” events; a non-member option must be available
    • We may decline to list events that we feel are prohibitively expensive for most families
  3. In-Person events
    • We do not list virtual events on our calendar.
  4. Fun for kids within the 0-12 year range
    • The event answers the child’s question “Where is a fun place to go today?”
    • Not events where the experience is only for adults (even if it is a fundraiser)

Exceptions to these criteria:

  1. We allow occasional exceptions for current banner advertisers
    • Up to two complimentary listings annually of an open house, trial class, or other event that will interest our audience but doesn’t quite fit our normal criteria. Contact us for current advertising information.
  2. We may allow exceptions for these specific categories of events:
    • We may list the first date of a completely free multi-week class (e.g. a multi-week library program)
    • We may list an annual or semi-annual kids’ consignment sale
    • We may list a large camp fair or preschool fair with many booths
    • We may list a parent-focused seminar during the day for parents of newborns, for which babies will be brought along
    • We may list a special day with completely free admission at a business that normally charges daily admission
  3. The criteria on this page are a general guideline, but our team reserves the right to use our discretion on all listings
